Nominations close on 3 June 2016" title="Share this link on Facebook">AustraliaMay 5, 2016Nominations are called for membership of the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee (GTTAC). Appointments of suitably qualified individuals are usually for a period of three years. Nominations for the Chair of the committee are also sought.The Gene Technology Act 2000 (the Act), in conjunction with corresponding State and Territory legislation, underpins the national scheme for the regulation of genetically modified organisms in Australia. The object of the Act is to protect the health and safety of people, and to protect the environment, by identifying and managing risks posed by, or as a result of, gene technology. The Act establishes an independent decision maker, the Gene Technology Regulator (the Regulator), to administer the legislation. The Legislative and Governance Forum on Gene Technology (LGFGT) oversees the implementation of the national scheme and is comprised of relevant ministers from the Australian Government and each State and Territory.The role of GTTAC is to provide scientific and technical advice on request to the Regulator and the LGFGT.The Australian Government is committed to achieving a balanced gender representation on Government boards and committees. In line with this policy, suitably qualified women are particularly encouraged to nominate.The nomination package can be accessed via the links below or on request from the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR).
